Haunt Engine
Building nightmares from scratch with C++ and Vulkan
Overview
Haunt Engine is a work-in-progress 3D game engine built from scratch using modern C++ and Vulkan, with the long-term goal of creating a survival-horror game.
The project is an exploration of real-time graphics and engine architecture, focusing on understanding and implementing the underlying systems rather than relying on an existing game engine.
Development follows the Khronos Vulkan Tutorial as a starting point, with plans to expand into rendering, resource management, scene management, and gameplay systems.
Technology
- Language: C++
- Graphics API: Vulkan
- Build: CMake
Goals
- Build a Vulkan-based rendering backend from the ground up
- Implement core engine systems for windowing, input, and the game loop
- Develop scene management, asset loading, and resource management
- Explore real-time lighting, shadows, and atmospheric rendering
- Implement foundational gameplay systems for 3D survival horror
- Ultimately create a playable survival-horror prototype powered by Haunt Engine
Development
Early stages. The repository is up and work is underway.
I’ll document architecture decisions and rendering progress as the engine takes shape.
